Modern pilates is one of the UK’s leading Pilates organisations, which combines the latest research in sports science with the world renowned exercise programme developed by Joseph Pilates. The emphasis with Modern Pilates is on back care, tailoring original Pilates exercises to ensure they are suitable for you.

The Pilates technique works on strengthening, lengthening and toning muscles as well as improving your posture, flexibility and balance. The correct muscle recruitment patterns are taught, targeting the deep postural muscles initially. These are muscles that are often underactive, either due to pain, poor posture, pregnancy or surgery.

Pre & Postnatal Pilates

Pilates is an excellent way to keep fit during and after pregnancy, by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles and teaching you valuable relaxation and breathing control skills for during labour. In Runcorn we offer Pilates sessions specially developed with the new mum's body in mind. Whether your birth was normal or C-Section, we have the moves to get your abdominals back and massage away the aches and pains from the poor posture of feeding and lifting babies. Pilates is based on 8 principles which are core to the programme and can be used in everyday life:

Concentration - focussing fully on the flowing movements.

Breathe - because we will engage our deep abdominal muscles we will breathe wide and full into the ribs.

Centering - all moves come from a strong centre of deep abdominal muscles.

Relaxation - it is important to focus your mind on how your body feels, shutting out any tension you may have.

Quality - correct alignment of the body is vital whilst exercising every movement.

Flowing Movement - the move will flow freely.

Awareness - each exercise will challenge each individual in a different way and we will all learn our own body's strengths and weaknesses and work on these.

Stamina - repetition and frequency of exercise increases our skill level. Pilates strengthens the body preparing it for the everyday activity that life brings.

At PremierPhysio in Runcorn, Cheshire we will design a bespoke programme for you, based on your Postural Analysis, as well as strength and stability testing. Each session will progress through increasing levels of difficulty using Pilates moves that will challenge your mind and body.
