What does treatment involve?

Your Assessment Is the Foundation of Your Treatment

Effective physiotherapy starts with understanding you, your symptoms and what is preventing you from moving and functioning at your best.

Your initial assessment is much more than simply identifying where it hurts. We take the time to understand your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, activity levels, and goals, alongside assessing your movement, strength, mobility, and function.
This detailed assessment allows us to build a clear clinical picture and identify the factors that may be contributing to your problem.

Why is a thorough assessment important?

Every person is different, and the same symptoms can have very different causes. A thorough assessment helps us to:
  • Understand what is causing or contributing to your symptoms
  • Identify areas of weakness, stiffness, reduced movement, or altered movement patterns
  • Consider how your symptoms are affecting your work, sport, hobbies, and everyday life
  • Identify any factors that may need further investigation or referral
  • Establish meaningful goals that are relevant to you
  • Select the most appropriate treatment and exercises for your individual needs
  • Create a clear plan for progressing your rehabilitation
Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we use the information gathered during your assessment to guide our clinical reasoning and tailor your treatment to you.

Assessment > Treatment > Review > Progress

Your assessment doesn't stop after your first appointment. Physiotherapy is an ongoing process. At each follow-up appointment, we review how you have responded to treatment and exercise, reassess relevant findings and consider your progress towards your goals. Your treatment can then be adapted as your symptoms, movement, and function change.

This means your rehabilitation is responsive rather than routine.

Treatment techniques will depend on your condition and can include acupuncture, soft tissue massage, myofascial and trigger point release, joint mobilisations, taping, and Shockwave Therapy. At other times, exercise, movement retraining, education, activity modification, or a combination of approaches may be more appropriate. The assessment helps us determine what is most likely to help you and why.

Your assessment is the starting point. Your goals are the destination. Together, we create the plan to get you there!
Next: Shockwave therapy.

"I am in my late 60's and still very active but with this comes some issues every so often. I have been to Premier Physio with a variety of muscular-skeletal problems over the years and Vikki is a magician and gets me back to fitness very quickly. She listens very carefully, treats and advises and invariably gets to the bottom of the problem. Sometimes just having such confidence in her ability is half way there. Vikki helped me so much with my back problems years ago, which was to be honest, life changing. I totally recommend this practice, especially Vikki."
